This is an original 1862 dated Civil War issued $1.00 note
from the state of Mississippi.
In the center of the note it has the large "ONE
DOLLAR" printing. On the right hand side of the note it has the likeness of the
farmer with his grain and sickle. On the left hand side of the note it has the
image of Lady Justice with the scales of equality and a sword by her side. The
center image depicts a long steam train rolling down the tracks. It is hand
signed and dated May 1st 1862. The note is in nice circulated condition as you can see
in the pictures and displays well. This is the version with the blue ink "COTTON
PLEDGED" over printing on the face of the note that stated what the currency
was backed up with. This overprint also aided in the prevention of
counterfeiting of the note. The overall size of the note measures 7-1/4th
inches by 3 inches. It comes in an acid
free holder for display and preservation.
