Very Nice Civil War Eagle Breastplate Found Near Spanish Fort, Alabama With Both Loops
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nice looking excavated eagle breastplate. This is the circular plate that would have adorned the shoulder strap to a Civil War cartridge box. It has the bold union eagle on the front of the plate. In one talon she holds the arrows of war and in the other talon is the branch of peace. On the back of the plate it has most of the lead remaining as well as both of the original iron attachment loops present. The loops are pressed down on the back but they are present. The verbal history that accompanied this piece is that it was found in the 1950's in Mobile, Alabama in the Spanish Fort area. This is a nice excavated Civil War era U.S. cartridge box breastplate.
