This is a very nice original classic Civil War Navy coat button. It has the eagle perched on the anchor below her talons on the front. The edge of the button has nice clear stars. It has the lined background to make the detail stand out better. The original back and shank are intact with the scarce backmark of the firm of J.M.L. & W.H. Scovill of Waterbury, Connecticut. This is the style listed in Albert's button book as NA106 and in Tice's button book as NA212a13. This is a wonderful looking Civil War navy coat button with a scarce maker's mark.
