Here is a very nice original pattern cartridge for the long pattern .38 caliber revolvers. This would fit a wide variety of weapons from the single shot to the revolvers. This one is in excellent non-excavated condition and displays well as you can see. On the bottom of the cartridge it has the "US" headstamp which is the mark of being manufactured by the U.S. Cartridge Company of Lowell, Massachusetts that was founded by former Union General Benjamin Butler. With this maker's mark, we know that these would have been produced after the Civil War since they went into business in the late 1860s. The This is a fine non-excavated piece of firearms history.
