Original Civil War Drummer Buckle With Beautiful Darkwood Sticks
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a piece that you don't see offered every day! It is an original non-excavated Civil War drummer buckle. This is the buckle that was designed to hold the drummer boy's sticks. It would have adorned the sling that went around the drummer boy's shoulder. This is a variant of the style that is illustrated as figure #801 on page 477 of the buckle book by O'Donnell & Campbell. This one has both of the cylinders still present on the front. Most of the time one or both of them are missing in action. This one is in beautiful untouched condition with a beautiful patina all over. On the reverse of the plate it has the original twisted wire attachment hooks. This pattern of attachment hook is often referred to by collectors as the "frog" style hooks. It is accompanied by an excellent pair of original Civil War era wooden drumsticks. They each measure 17 inches long and each display well. They are an exact match and they display superbly together. As you can see they have a beautiful deep dark patina that is pure and uncleaned. If you're looking for a drummers buckle with sticks for your collection then this beauty is for you!
