Military Model .54 Caliber Civil War Starr Patent Cavalry Carbine

This is the Civil War production Starr patent cavalry carbine. According to Flayderman's guide there were only 20,601 of these Starr carbine made and they were only made between 1862 and 1865. This one is in very nice well worn condition and has the serial number of 18,049. This one has the full-length barrel with the front and rear sights intact. Near the rear sight it has the "STARR FIREARMS YONKERS, NY" stamped into the barrel. The barrel retains some of the rifling still visible with some pitting spotting. The action works well on both positions. The block drops just like it should. The clip that holds the triggerguard in place is present and it locks up as it should. The Starr Firearms Company markings are clear on the lockplate and on the top of the tang as well. The tang mark reads STARR'S PATENT SEPT. 14TH 1858". The stock has a very pleasing look and when you look closely you see that it had the usual chip out of the bottom of the stock by the buttplate that most of them have. It has been expertly repaired. The stock has a very dark color and a pleasing look. On the side of the barrel has the initials "H.G.S." for the inspector Henry G. Shaw. On the stock in front of the brass buttplate, it has the "L.A.B." stamped into the wood. This is where the gun was approved for military use by the Government inspector, L.A. Brown. This lets us know that the gun is a military model instead of being a civilian purchased gun. It also has the original saddle ring intact on the frame. The shoulder stock of the gun has the faint remnants of the inspector cartouche stamps still partially visible. This is a very pretty Starr cavalry carbine from the Civil War.
