What a beautifully designed piece of currency! This is a very attractive original pre-Civil War $3.00 note from the Merchants & Planters Bank in the state of Georgia. It was issued from Savannah, Georgia and is so marked on the front of the note along with the hand printed date of issuance of 1856. This note has a fine design. It has the likeness of the steam ship scene in the center of the note. The note has the red ink "THREE" overprint on the front and back. This was added by the printer to help prevent counterfeiting of the note. In the bottom center of the note it has the image of the Georgia state seal. The note is correctly hand signed, dated and numbered in nice old ink. The note is in well-circulated condition and displays well as you can see. The overall size of the note measures 7 inches by 3 inches. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
