RARE! Revolutionary War Era Socket Bayonet with Original Scabbard Body
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very rare and very cool looking socket bayonet. This one is from the Revolutionary War timeframe. It is an American made bayonet for a Charleville style flintlock musket. Has the very pleasing full-length 14-1/2 inches of the blade and is unmarked all over. The socket of the bayonet is 2-3/4ths inches in length. The front side of the socket has the internal diameter of .81 inches and the musket side is .88 inches. You can see the crude but functional weld between the socket and the blade. It also has a forging flaw on the top of the socket. You can see that they were producing this as a functional weapon and that beauty was secondary. One thing that really makes this one stand out is that it comes encased int he original scabbard body. The body is made of leather and has the original stitching on the bottom side. It is rare that you see one of these bayonets but it is extremely scarce to fine one with some of the original scabbard. This one is a beauty!
