S&K Marked Saber Bayonet For the Drissen Made Brazilian Enfield Pattern Rifle
Click on an image to enlarge
What a cool looking piece! Here is an untouched original Civil War saber style bayonet. It has the look like it just came out of the soldier's cabin. This is the pattern that was used on the style musket referred to by collectors as the Brazilian Light Minie rifle. The muskets themselves were initially made for the Brazilian government by the O.P. Drissen Company in Liege, France. When the Civil War was going some of these guns were imported by the U.S. Ordnance Department. There is a neat description of these guns on page 112 of the 2nd edition of the book entitled Firearms from Europe, which we sell. The blade and the iron crossguard each have Drissen's distinct maker mark of an anchor with "D" on one side of the anchor and "C" on the other side. On the back side of the blade it has the mark of actual maker of the blade "S&K". The blade is full-length with the locking spring present. It has the original scabbard accompanying the piece. The scabbard is made of a leather body with the brass for the throat and drag. It has the original attachment stud present on the throat. What a cool relic!
