This is a nice authentic 1862 dated Confederate states of America $10.00 note with the Goddess Ceres in the center reclining on cotton bales. Ceres was the Roman Goddess of agriculture & grain and was often depicted on Confederate currency & bonds. In the lower right hand corner is the likeness of Robert M.T. Hunter who served as Confederate Secretary of State and a C.S. Senator. Before the War he was a U.S. Congressman and Senator from Virginia. It was issued from Richmond, Virginia and has the printed date of September 2nd of 1862. The note has a very nice look. It is correctly hand signed and dated in fine old ink. This is the version listed as figure T-46 in Criswell's Confederate Currency book. When you look at the bottom the note you can see the circular slices in the paper. This is the "Cut Cancellation" marking that lets us know the note was used during the Civil War and was taken out of circulation by the Confederate Government. The note is in nice circulated condition and comes in an acid free holder for preservation.
