This is an authentic 1861 dated Confederate States of America $10.00 note. In the lower left hand corner is the likeness of Robert M.T. Hunter who served as Confederate Secretary of State and a C.S. Senator. Before the War he was a U.S. Congressman and Senator from Virginia. Down In the lower right hand side it has the angel-like image of a young child. This is the image of of the Rev. Dr. Alfred L Elwyn as child. Interestingly enough, Elwyn would become an abolitionist but at the time that the portrait was selected, his identity was unknown. On the upper corner it has the orange-red ink "10" overprint and it still has the nice tone. This is the version listed as T-24 in Criswell's Confederate Currency book. It was issued from Richmond, Virginia and has the printed date of September 2nd of 1861. The note has a very nice look. It is correctly hand signed and dated in fine old ink. The note is in attractive circulated condition. The note comes in an acid free holder for preservation.
