This is a gorgeous display piece! It is an original military helmet from the 1840's or 1850's. These are referred to as a "Dragoon" helmet. The dragoons were a well-equipped group of riflemen often referred to as a strike force. It has the Leather bodied main section and on each side it has the applied silvered copper leaf branches. The branches still retain a superb amount of the original silver was on the copper. On the front it has the silvered stamped copper star design insignia like the one used for the 1833 dragoon helmets. In the center of the star, it has the applied company letter "A" designation. Going down the center of the helmet it has the "Comb" which looks like a mohawk. The center of the comb has the restored horse hair that gives it an impressive look that stands out. In the front of the helmet, it has the original tarred leather brim intact with the silvered copper border intact. It has the original chinstrap present and each side has the silver star design rosettes. On the underside of the brim it has the green tone. It also has the sweatband intact with a fine look. This is an exceptional piece that displays beautifully from all angles.
