Edged Weapons
Model 1816 .69 Caliber Bayonet in an Original Black Leather Scabbard
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a nice non-excavated socket bayonet for the Civil War Springfield or other contractor made military .69 caliber rifle. This one has a full-length blade and is one of the ones that was made without the "US" stamp still visible at the base. The socket is also in nice shape. This pattern was designed to fit the U.S. military rifles of the 1816 pattern by Springfield or the muskets made by the contract makers either one. The bayonet is accompanied by a nice original leather scabbard. The scabbard is the pattern that is assembled using the rivets in addition to the stitching on the scabbard belt loop. The scabbard body is complete as you can see in the pictures. It still has the original brass scabbard tip present at the bottom with the finial as well. The belt loop remains and would fit back onto your belt today but has some wear from service. What makes this one neat is that it is the Civil War version that is constructed using the 8 rivets construction. So it would be a Civil War era scabbard used on the older bayonet. This will be a solid addition to your gun or just for display by itself.
