1850 Slave Document For The State of Kentucky From Scott County
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is an interesting legal document from the state of Kentucky. It is dated from February of 1850 from Scott County, Kentucky. The document is written in brown ink and the ink has faded over the years so this is the best translation I can decipher. It regards Mariah "late a slave of James Maloney" and he infant son, James. It looks like a slave bill of sale but I don't believe it is. It is signed at the bottom and even has the applied seal of the State of Kentucky in the lower left hand corner. This is a cool early piece of Kentucky history!
