When was the last time you had a chance to own one of these? This is an original Austrian made cavalry saber. It is recorded that some of these swords of this style were imported for use by the Confederate cavalry during the Civil War. Since they added no Confederate markings to them we can't know for sure but it has an honest chance of being Rebel used. These swords have the massive iron hand guard with the seven holes and the two small slots. The handle of the sword has the original wooden core intact with the majority of the original leather intact as well. This one has the full-length blade that measures 36-1/4th inches in overall length. It has the double edged point with the single fuller that goes about 3/4ths of the blade length. At the base of the back side of the blade it has the Austrian style proof marks along with the maker's mark of the Holler firm in Solingen. The sword is accompanied by the original metal scabbard. The scabbard is complete with both of the mounts and rings as well as the drag and throat. This pattern of scabbard has the two large screws on the sides that hold the throat in place. This is good looking Model 1858 Austrian Pattern Cavalry Saber with the Holler maker marking.
