This is an original Civil War piece of currency from what would be Confederate Virginia. This $2 note was issued by the Merchants and Mechanics Bank of Wheeling that was located in Virginia at the time before West Virginia became a state in June of 1862. It has the printed issue date of May 1st 1861. The front of the note has the scene of the beautiful spread wing Union eagle. It is correctly hand signed and numbered. These notes are printed on the front side and were left blank on the reverse. This is known to collectors as the bill being "Uniface". The note is in circulated condition and is 100% authentic in all regards. It has the overall size of the note measures 7-1/8th inches by 3 inches. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
