Original 1863 Confederate Civil War $50 Savings Bond With Thomas Bragg Image

This is a nice and 100% authentic 1863 dated Confederate States of America savings bond. This is the style issued under the act of the Confederate Congress on August 19th 1861 in the $50 denomination. It is the style that has the likeness of Thomas Bragg at the top of the bond. He served as Confederate Attorney General in the Confederate Government. He also served as Governor of North Carolina and was the older brother of Confederate General Braxton Bragg. This one has had the interest coupons removed from the bottom. When the date arrived that is printed on the bottom of the coupon you could cash it in for your interest payment. At the bottom edge of the top portion you can see the printer's mark from the firm of B. Duncan of Columbia, South Carolina. It is correctly hand signed and numbered by the Confederate Government officials in fine brown ink. It still has 18 of the interest coupons still attached at the bottom of the bond. This is the Confederate bond listed as CR-20 in the bond book by Criswell and as #87 in the Confederate Bond book by Ball. There were only 3,614 of these bonds issued by the Confederacy and this one is numbered "2008" in ink. This is a very attractive original Confederate states savings bond.
