This is a tough to find bank note. This one was issued by the Bank of Winchester in Winchester, Virginia. It is hand dated from April 1st 1860 in the lower right hand corner. It is correctly hand signed and numbered in ink. The Bank of Winchester was organized in 1853 and operated as a free bank until approximately 1861. With the onset of the Civil War, the bank, along with most others in the state began issuing unregistered notes. The center of the note has the image of the sheep with the mechanic in the lower left hand corner. It measures 7-1/4th inches by 3 inches in overall size. The note is only printed on one side which is referred to by collectors as being "Uniface". This is a note that is not an easy piece to find!
