Here is a fine original CDV image of Confederate General Earl Van Dorn (1820 - 1863). The image shows the bust view of Van Dorn with his dashing hair and mustache. The General was born near Port Gibson, Mississippi on September 17th 1820. He graduated West Point in 1842 and served during the Mexican War. He was made a Confederate General on June 5th 1861.He was placed in charge of the Army of the West in the Trans-Mississippi theater. After losing the battle at Pea Ridge, he was transferred to the Army of Mississippi. He was killed at the Confederate Headquarters at Spring Hill, Tennessee on May 7th 1863. He was killed by Dr. Peters after he discovered that Van Dorn had (allegedly) slept with his wife. He is buried at Port Gibson, Mississippi. On the reverse of the card it is marked by the famous Anthony Firm. These CDV images measure approximately 2 1/2 inches wide and are 4 inches tall. This is a tough to find image of a famous Confederate General.
