This is a cool looking gun! This gun is very interesting as well. The lockplate of the gun has the desirable "VIRIGINIA" marking as well as traces of the Manufactory. Behind the hammer it has the Richmond, Virginia production location as well as the 1805 production date. As for the gun itself, it has a very cool design that is the classic Virginia Manufactory muskets. When these guns left the factory in 1805 they were made as a flintlock and were converted later on so they could still be used when the flintlock system was replaced by the percussion system. This is one that was converted by the firm of Lehman of Philadelphia. They cut off the breech of the barrel and added their distinctive style bolster. The Barrel is full-length at 44 inches. It has the stud style front sight so a socket bayonet could be attached. The mechanics of the lockplate still catches on both positions. The gun is constructed with with the iron buttplate as well as the original ramrod in the channel under the barrel It has both of the original sling swivels intact. The stock of the gun has a gorgeous look to the walnut wood with the crude copper repair to the front of the triggerguard. This is very cool looking original 1805 dated lockplate Virginia Manufactory musket with tons of character.
