This is a nice and 100% authentic 1862 dated Confederate States of America savings bond. This is the style issued under the act of the Confederate Congress on August 19th 1861 in the $500 denomination. It is the style that has the likeness of Judah P. Benjamin at the top of the bond. He served as Confederate Secretary of War and also as Secretary of State in the Confederate Government. It has the image of the small child along the bottom of the top section. This one has all 9 of the original coupons attached at the bottom. When the date arrived that is printed on the bottom of the coupon you could cash it in for your interest payment. At the bottom edge of the top portion you can see the printer's mark from the firm of B. Duncan of Columbia, South Carolina. It is correctly hand signed and numbered by the Confederate Government officials in fine brown ink. This one is signed by the register of the Confederate Treasury Robert Tyler. Tyler was the son of the 10th President of the United States John Tyler. This is a very interesting thing to point out to your friends when you who them the bond. After the Confederacy fell to the Union and the war was over, there were still thousands of dollars of Confederate bonds in banks and private hands over seas. The bonds still had to be accounted for overseas. This stamp shows that this one was accounted for in Amsterdam in November of 1881 on the reverse and their stamp itself on the front. This is the Confederate bond listed as Type 117 in the bond book by Ball and as CR71 in Criswell's Confederate bond Book. This is a very attractive original Confederate states savings bond.
