This is a great looking piece of history from Union Survivors of the Civil War. This one was designed for McLaughlin's Squadron. They served with the Ohio Cavalry and was organized at Mansfield, Ohio, October and November, 1861. They moved to Raleigh and consolidated with 5th Ohio Cavalry July 28, 1865. The top bar has the Union eagle design. The lower medallion is made with the image of McLaughlin in the center. The red, white and blue ribbon is original. The original pin is on the reverse of the top bar. The ribbon displays well. The back of the medallion has the image of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building in Mansfield, Ohio. This is an excellent medal for any collection.
