This is a very nice authentic 1864 dated Confederate States of America $200.00 savings bond certificate. These are the papers that were issued to banking institutions that turned money into the Confederate Government. It was authorized to be printed by the Act of the Confederate Congress that was approved on February 17th 1864 and is so marked in the center of the bond wording. This is the style that has the simple printing on the cream tone paper. This is the style issued from the Columbia (South Carolina) Banking office of the "Confederate States of America". The Columbia bank was one of the last Confederate banks to stay out of Yankee hands. The bonds were purchased by the Merchants Bank of South Carolina. It is so written in fine brown ink. The certificate measures approximately 4-1/2 inches by 8-1/8ths inches in overall size. It has hand written amount of $200 and is dated from August 30th 1864. It is hand signed for authorization. This will make a fine display as it is or it will look even better framed up on you office or relic room wall.
