Click on an image to enlarge

This is an authentic original non-excavated embroidered officer style hunting horn hat insignia from the Civil War. The hunting horn design was used by the Infantry branch of service throughout the Civil War. This pattern is the small size embroidered insignia for use on a "forage" style officer's hat. It measures approximately 1-1/2 inches tall and is 2 inches across. It has the hunting horn design embroidered with the gold bullion. It is intricately designed and well executed. The black backing has a wonderful look. In the center of the horn you see the applied stamped silver tone metal "3" which would denote the 3rd regiment of infantry. On the back of the insignia you can see just how many stitches it took to attach the bullion. This is the pattern that was to be sewn directly onto the hat and never had any attachment loops. This is a fine displaying Civil War embroidered hunting horn hat pin.
