This is a great looking piece of history from the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic or G.A.R. was the organization made up of Union Survivors of the Civil War. They held reunion and erected monuments to the men that fought for the north during the Civil War. This badge was to commemorate the 1891 reunion of the G.A.R. that was held in Detroit, Michigan. The top bar proudly reads "INDIANA" on a gold ribbon. The ribbon is deep red with gold lettering. It reads the 1891 reunion date and Detroit location and the GAR lettering. The ribbon also has the "25th National Encampment" marking. The original pin is on the reverse of the top bar. It also has the original maker's label stamping on the ribbon. This is an excellent Badge for any collection.
