Here is a very scarce excavated cavalry spur. This is the EXACT spur that is pictured and described on page 91 of the fine spur book by Dr. Bob Baird entitled Confederate, US and Other Civil War Used Spurs. He explains how this is a US Model 1841 spur that was described in the 1841 U.S. Government Ordnance Manual. They are made of steel and were to be painted black. They were designed to be used by the Dragoons who were a very well equipped strike force of riflemen. The spur is in beautiful non-excavated condition and still has the original rowel. They note in the book that the spur has the 8 point rowel. These spurs were designed to be driven into the boot and tacked in place on each of the legs. This is a great looking spur that was published!
