This is a very tough button to find in any condition especially this beautiful condition. This is the Confederate made staff officer's button. This is the 16mm size that was used not only on cuffs but sometimes as going down the front of uniforms. It has the droop wing style eagle on the face of the button. There is a superb amount of the original gold gilding in the recessed areas of the front. The gold gilding really makes the eagle stand out well. On the reverse of the button it has the original back intact. This is the pattern listed as CS27av in Albert's button book and CS278as1 in Tice's button book. This is a fine displaying original and scarce version of Confederate made Civil War staff officer coat button.
