Very Rare 1-Piece Government Official 25mm Coat Button OD8
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a super scarce piece and is the first of these buttons we have been able to offer. This is the large 25mm coat button that was designed for the U.S. Government Official. It is listed as OD8 in Albert's button book. The face of the button shows the spread wing Union eagle with the arrows of war in one talon and the branch of peace in the other. Around the edge of the button it has the 17 stars. The 17th state was Ohio which entered the Union in 1803. The next state was Louisiana which entered in 1812. This button was likely made between those dates of 1803 and 1812. The face of the button still retains a superb amount of the original gold gilding. On the reverse of the button it has the original shank intact and it is in fine shape. This is an amazing button!
