This is a beautifully marked original Civil War naval artillery fuse box. This is the leather pouch that went on the side of the Civil War naval artilleryman. It held his paper time fuzes for firing the cannon shells. The inner flap has a arsenal mark of "USNY BOSTON" as clearly marked as you could ever hope for. The original closure tab is present on the bottom of the box as well as the brass finial. The closure tab is repaired on the reverse. On the back of the box it has the original leather belt loop solidly intact. The box measures approximately 4-3/4ths inches by 4-1/4 inches by 2-1/2 inches in overall size. This will make a fine addition for a naval or artillery collector either one.
