Beautiful Richmond Made C.S. Short Artillery Sword With Wonderful Color
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a spectacular piece of Confederate artillery history! It is an original Confederate made short artillery sword. This is the pattern that was made by the famous firm of Boyle, Gamble and MacFee of Richmond, Virginia. Although it is unmarked it is easily distinguished by the flat sides of the cross guard. The blade is 18-1/2 inches in overall length with the single fuller on each side. There is a similar sword photographed on page #7 of our friend, Shannon Pritchard's book Collecting the Confederacy. The blade of this sword is in fine displaying shape with a beautiful ancient dark color tone all over. Along the edges you see some very shallow nicks that let you know that this one was used. The cast brass handle has a gorgeous thick attic tone to the patina. This sword is missing the scabbard as they so often are. This is an opportunity to own a superb and untouched piece of Confederate artillery history!
