Authentic Original Rifle & Musket Bayonets of .58 Caliber
Edged Weapons
Beautiful Civil War Enfield Pattern Rifle Saber Bayonet by Weyersberg
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very nice original Civil War saber bayonet. This pattern was used on the end of the 2-band style Enfield rifles. They were designed so they could be used as a bayonet on the end of the gun or they could be removed and used as a saber for up close fighting. Thus they got the name of a saber-bayonet. They attached to the stud on the end of the barrel and this one still has the spring on the end that held it in place. The button is present but has separated from the spring over the years. The blade is full-length with a lighter tone to all of the metal. The handle is complete with both sides of the pressed black leather handles remaining. It is nice enough to put back on a gun today. At the base it has the Kings Head stamp. This is the maker mark of the German firm of Gerbruder Weyersberg of Solingen, Germany. They were one of the premier maker's of edged weapons in the 1800's. The scabbard is missing in action as is so often the case because they were made with a leather body and break easily. This is a nice example and will make a solid addition to your collection.
