This is the bayonet that you seldom see offered for sale. This is the socket style bayonet designed for the Austrian model 1838, military rifle. This is the version pictured on page 82 of the book by David Noe and Joseph Sebaroli, Jr. Entitled European Bayonets of the American Civil War. The bayonet has the distinctive 4 sides to the blade. The blade is full-length at 19 inches. The socket is the version that is manufactured without the lock ring and screw. It has the opening that clips onto the spring clip underneath the barrel. The socket has some bends as you can see in the images and it is priced accordingly. On the side of the bayonet shank, it has the remnants of the 6 pointed Austrian star stamping from the Vienna Arsenal. As you can see this one is in neat almost relic condition all the way around.
