Here is an authentic 1863 dated Confederate States of
America savings bond. This is the style issued under the act of the Confederate
Congress that was approved on August 19th 1861 in the hand written amount of the $5,000 denomination. It is the style that has image of the beautiful sailing ship in the center of the bond. Instead of he usual interest coupons intact at the bottom these hat the hand notations stating that the bonds had the interest that would be paid twice a year. This is the version that was redeemable in 1872. The bond book states that there were only 3070 of this particular version issued. It is hand serial numbered "632" on each side. It is correctly hand signed and numbered by the
Confederate Government officials in fine brown ink. It is signed by Robert Tyler who was a descendant of President Tyler. This is the Confederate bond
listed as Type 137 in the bond book by Ball and as 106 in Criswell's bond book. It was lithograph printed by Hoyer & Ludwig of Richmond, Virginia and is so marked in the lower part of
the top section. The pieces measures 8 inches by 12-5/8ths inches wide in overall size. This is a very attractive original Confederate states
savings bond with a beautiful center design.
