Original Pair of Y-Billet Saddlebags Likely Confederate
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a fine pair of Civil War era saddle bags. This is the pattern that is discussed on page 111 of the Ken Knopp book, Confederate Saddles & Horse Equipment. This pattern of saddle bag is very distinctive because of the "Y" shaped billets that are sewn onto the flap of the bag. The bags themselves measure 14 inches wide and 11 inches tall. As you can see they have a good bit of wear that gives them a lot of character. They are a fine piece of Civil War era horse gear.
