SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 1860 U.S. Staff & Field Officer's Sword Made

Here is a very pretty sword for your collection! This is the sword officially referred to as the U.S. model 1860 staff & field officer's sword. This name is a little misleading since almost all of the swords of this pattern were made in the late 1800's. This one was probably made about 1880 or so. It has the very nicely blade that is 29-1/2 inches in length. You can still see some of the etching on each side of the blade. At the base of the blade it has the maker's mark "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY SPRINGFIELD MASS, USA" in four lines. This makes this sword one of the most desirable of all of the model 1860 staff officer's swords. It has a gorgeous golden color to the brass of the hand guard and pommel cap with a fine amount of the original factory gold gilding. The hand guard has the beautiful Union eagle on the clam shell side of the guard. On the backside it has the stationary clam shell with the shield in the center. The original grip is remaining with the original sharkskin grip with the original double twist brass wire lost long ago. The sword is accompanied by the original scabbard that has a very nice look all over. The sword still retains and excellent amount of the original nickel plating from the factory. The mounts are missing the screw and the throat is missing in action. This is a attractive looking sword with the desirable Springfield Armory maker marking.
