Here is a beautiful sword for the price! This is the style that is known to collectors as the eagle pommel officer's saber. They get their nickname because the pommel cap at the end of the grip that holds the sword together is made like the head of an eagle. This one has a large impressive eagle with a determined look. This pattern is reported to have been made in Europe and imported for the well-to-do American market. The hand grip is original to the sword and it is made of a high quality piece of bone with a pleasing golden tone all over. It has the single crack on one side. The blade is full length at 32 inches. On each side of the blade it has the remnants of the beautiful blue and gold wash. It gives gorgeous detail to the engraving on each side that depicts floral and patriotic designs. One thing that makes this one special is that it still retains the original brass portion for the scabbard. With the wide sweeping curve of the blade most of the time these scabbards have broken and are no longer present. This one had someone make a very slender and thin wooden body to replace the leather that was lost. It is fragile but displays well. It isn't often that you see one of these as pretty as this one in this price range so don't miss your opportunity to own this beautiful sword.
