Model 1866 Civil War Musket Tumbler Punch Made into a Combination Tool
Click on an image to enlarge
This is neat piece. It is a post Civil War alteration of an original Springfield musket tumbler punch. Upon 1st glance it looks like the standard tumbler punch from the Civil War but when you look closer you see that one of the ends has been tapered down so it could be used as a screwdriver. This was done shortly after the Civil War for use with the model 1866 conversions that allowed the percussion guns to be converted to cartridge guns. This one is in superb non-excavated shape and still turns. These were used to work on the muskets in various different ways for disassembling the gun for repair. This is a must have for your for you Civil War era gun tool display
