Here is your chance to own an exquisite early Daguerreotype
image of the U.S. Navy officer. These daguerreotype images are a scarce early
photography that was done on a silver plate. It is a nice large size that is referred to by
collectors as a quarter plate image which means they measure approximately 3
1/8 inches wide and are 4 1/8 inches tall. It is in the original book style leatherette case that is complete except for half of the clasp. The image shows the seated young man
in his dress uniform with the distinctive Naval double-breasted frockcoat. On his head he wears the classic Civil War era naval cap. On the front of the hat he has the insignia for naval engineers. The insignia has the 4 oak leaves in silver in the form of a cross which lets us know he was an engineer. By his side he has the scabbard for the Naval officer's sword. He holds the sword in his hand by his side. The young officer has the determined look on his face
and is very rare compared to most of the daguerreotype images you encounter
these days.
