This is a great looking bayonet. It is the .69 caliber bayonet that was designed to go on the Springfield or contract maker muskets of the model 1816 pattern. There were many of these bayonet used by soldiers on both sides of the Civil War since it is what many of the arsenals had on hand when the war broke out. This one has a beautiful full-length 16 inch blade with a pretty dark tone all over with some attic style pitting. The bayonet was made with the "US" and inspector stampings on the base of the blade. The socket is in fine shape and is nice enough to be put back onto a gun today. This is a fine bayonet from all angles.
