Original Dug Civil War 24# Borman Pattern Cannonball With Excellent Fuse
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a fine excavated 24# Civil War cannonball. This is the Borman pattern cannonball that went into the 5.68 inch bore diameter cannon better known as the 24# gun. These 24# size balls are a good bit tougher to find than the standard 12#er balls. At the top of the ball is the zinc Borman pattern time fuse. The fuse displays well and you can see clearly where the fuse was punched by the artilleryman, but the flame never started the burning down as it was supposed to The body of the ball has nice iron with some pitting from the years in the ground. This shell has been drilled out and has had the powder removed to make it safe for display. All of our artillery shells have been disarmed this was to make the safe for your collection. This is a very nice Civil War cannonball from one of the most famous cannons of the Civil War.
