This is a scarce button. It is the tough to find Civil War Confederate South Carolina State Seal 13mm kepi button. This one is in beautiful untouched non-excavated condition with a very pleasing patina all over. It has the palmetto tree on the face of the button with the motto around the side. The motto reads "Animis Opibusque Parati" which translates as "Prepared in mind and Resources." On the back of the button it has the "SCHUYLER H. &G" backmark. The original shank is intact and in fine shape. The face has a nice amount of the gold gilt remaining in the recesses. This pattern is listed in Albert's button book as SC13 and in Tice's button book as CS248as4. You often see the coat size of this button but these cuff size ones are exceptionally scarce. This is a beautiful button that would be a superb addition to any collection.
