This is a nice displaying original 1861 dated $1 note from
the Bank of the State of South Carolina. It is hand signed and numbered as it
should be with this style of note. In the lower center it has the
hand written date of issuance of June 27th 1861. The scene in the
center shows the slaves unloading the ship and has one slave loading a bale of cotton onto a horse drawn wagon. In the lower right-hand corner it has the image of the South Carolina palmetto tree. In the center of the
note it has the location of "CHARLESTON. So. Ca." and the amount of "ONE DOLLAR". The note has the large red ink printing "ONE" to help prevent counterfeiting. There is a little bit of paper loss along the lower edge that is mentioned for exactness. Notice that this note has the circular cancellation marks on the paper and the cancellation stamps on the reverse. The overall
size of this note is 7 1/4 inches by 3 1/8 inches. This note is in attractive
circulated condition. It comes in an acid free holder for preservation and
display.
