Here is a neat original Civil War note from the war torn Virginia. This is a $2.00 note for the Bank of Virginia in Richmond. It is hand dated in ink from January 2nd 1862. The bank was originally authorized in 1804 and ultimately grew to a network of nine branches in addition to the parent bank in Richmond. The bank did not survive the end of the Civil War, with the bank's facilities in Richmond being destroyed during the city's capture in 1865. The $2 states that it is payable in the Fredericksburg branch. The note measures 7 inches by 3-1/8th inches in size. It was professionally graded by the PMG Company and they graded it as "Very Fine". It comes in their holder for display and preservation.
