Scarce Dug Confederate Saber Bayonet Adapter by Boyle & Gamble of Richmond
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a tough to find Confederate piece! It is the brass adapter that was put onto the end of the barrel of a Mississippi rifle so they could use a saber bayonet. This brass adapter went over the barrel of the gun and screw into place. This screw has been replaced with a modern one. Then the saber style bayonet went over the barrel and clicked into place over this bayonet adapter or lug. This is the classic style that was made by the famous Richmond, Virginia firm of Boyle, Gamble & McFee. It is unmarked but you can see the "38" assembly number on the lug portion. This marking would have matched the saber bayonet. This is a very nice excavated one that is nice enough to put back on a gun.
