Excavated Civil War Confederate Government Uniform Buttons
North Anna Virginia Found Pewter Confederate Solid Cast Infantry Coat Button CS185
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original excavated Civil War coat button for the Confederate Infantry. This is the tough to find Pewter style with the block style "I" on the face of the button. They are much tougher to find than their solid brass counterparts. The integrally cast brass shank is missing off of the back. This is the style button pictured as figure CS185 in Albert's book and figure CSI278B1 in Tice's button book. These complete pewter "I" buttons are tough to find and this one displays well. The verbal history that accompanied the buckle is that it was recovered in 1981 in a Confederate campsite near the battle of North Anna, Virginia. The Battle of North Anna was fought on May 23rd through 26th 1864, as part of Union Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign against Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. This is a very nice looking Confederate pewter infantry coat button.
