Here is a cool looking sword! It is an original U.S. model 1872 cavalry officer's saber that was made into a knife. This one would have been made about 1890 or so. These are easily distinguished by the cast brass hand guard. The guard has the Union eagle on the inside with the arrows of war in one talon and the branch of peace in the other. It also has the stars on the underside of the grip. The grip still has the wooden core present with a well worn look all over. The blade was trimmed down to the length of a long knife and it now measures 17 inches with a attic style surface all over. This is a cool knife made from a US Model 1872 cavalry officer's saber that is priced right!
