Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a wonderful piece! It is a very early savings bond issued from Jackson, Mississippi in 1833. This savings bond was issued for the amount of $1,000 which was a lot of money in 1833. This Series E Bond displays quite well as you can see with a couple of edge tears and several pinholes. It is hand signed in clear ink by the Governor of Mississippi, A.M. Scott. Most of the original interest coupons are till attached on the sides of the main body of the bond. The full amount of the bond would have been payable in 1861, earning 6 per cent per year. It notes that the interest was payable in New York or in London. It has its original applied seal. This is a desirable and rare southern state bond from the state of Mississippi.
