"CS" Stamped Confederate Cavalry Spur From the Baird Spur Book
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a very elusive excavated cavalry spur. This is the EXACT spur that is pictured and described on page 40 of the fine spur book by Dr. Bob Baird entitled Confederate, US and Other Civil War Used Spurs. He explains how this is a spur of the style that is known as the "CS on Arm" spur. They get this nickname because they are stamped on the side with the "CS" letters on the leg by the stud for the leather. It is missing the rowel on the rooster style neck. When it was excavated it was missing one of the legs as you can see in the books as well as the "before" pictures. We had it professionally restored for display and as you can see it is beautiful now. It has a beautiful greenish brown excavated patina with a pretty color to the brass. The spur is in fine excavated condition for its age. This is a great looking spur that was published!
