This is a great looking saber! This one would date from the 1820's to about 1840. It is silver mounted which is known to have been attributed to the Infantry branch of service. The sweeping blade lets us know it was designed for a mounted officer. The blade is full-length at 28 inches and has the single fuller going down each side. On the sides of the blade it has a very fine amount of the original blue and gold detail work from the factory. The front side of the blade has the center scene of the shield and the cannon. The back side has the center scene with the Liberty Cap with the spear and flag. The hand guard has the single branch with the silver tone. The quillion of the sword is designed similar to the sea serpent head. It has the very large eagle pommel that is the matching and correct silver tone. On the handle of the sword is has the original polished bone grip intact that is equally as well crafted as the rest of the sword. The sword is accompanied by the original silver mounted scabbard. The mounts and drag has the scallops to accent the silver design. Both of the rings are present and they still pivot. The body of the scabbard is made of a single piece of leather with a reddish tone. Just above the grad, it has a stress line that appears to have been reinforced. This is a very cool looking sword!
