VERY SCARCE! Model 1840 Mounted Artillery by W. Clauberg

In our 30 years in the business, this is the first one of these sabers that I have been able to offer. I have had hundreds of mounted artillery swords over the years but this is the first one that we have encountered by this maker. At the base of the full-length 31 inch blade it has the well-known maker marking of the W. Clauberg firm. Clauberg was a premiere maker of edged weapons during the Civil War but this is the ONLY one of these 1840 model artillery sabers we have encountered. It isn't even listed in the sword book. It has their maker marking along with their famous trademark of a standing knight in armor. This is the style that is known as the model 1840 mounted artillery saber for the enlistedmen. It is the model that was sued by soldiers during the Civil War. It has the thick single branch hand guard that curves up to meet the brass pommel cap. When we acquired this sword it was missing the handle so we had it restored for display purposes and now it displays beautifully. The sword is accompanied by the original metal scabbard. The scabbard has both of the mounts and rings intact as well as the original throat and drag. There is rust hole on the back side of the scabbard that is mentioned for exactness. Don't miss this opportunity to own a super scarce Civil War artillery saber by Clauberg.
